ἡλιαία, ἡ, in Athen die Halle, der öffentliche Ort, wo das höchste Gericht über Staatsverbrechen, das aus 500, hernach aus 1000 u. 1500 Richtern bestand, seine Versammlungen u. Sitzungen hielt; auch das Gericht selbst; es ist dabei nicht an den sonnigen Ort zu denken, worauf das Wortspiel Ar. Vesp. 772 (s. ἡλιάζω) führen könnte, sondern an ἁλής, ἁλίζομαι, der Versammlungsort, vgl. Harpocr. u. B. A. 310; Lys. 10, 16 u. a. Redner. S. Hermann griech. Staatsalterth. §. 134 u. Jo. Theod.
